In Case You Missed It…

This weekend at (in)real life, we met at the altar of the Living God.

We gathered together with friends near and far. We reconnected, rekindled friendships, got our brave on, and went first with ‘hello’. We laughed, and you bet we cried. We shared raw and real stories of painful friendship breakups, and of what happens when we can’t see beauty yet from the ashes.

We raised our hands in worship, knelt in praise, and asked God the really hard questions we’ve been too scared to utter before. We heard from wise women who have gone first with their stories, their experiences, their bruised and healing hearts. We worshipped together, lifting our hearts and voices to our first and Best Friend.

Women of all ages admitted they’ve dealt with the same struggles, and realized that true strength lies not in trying to keep it all together, but in letting ourselves fall apart.

We took selfies like pros and shared everything #inrl. We rocked our ‘I’m just a sweatpants girl living in a skinny jeans world’ t-shirts, silently handed our neighbors tissues for their tears, and let the girl ahead of us in the lunch line know when she had mascara smudges under her eyes.

Hundreds of women across 4 countries and 35 states tuned in – from their bedrooms with pop-tarts and coffee in hand, from their church basements and favorite coffee shops, from their kitchens while baking pumpkin muffins, and in their mamas’ living rooms. They made space for friendship.

We had the BEST time at (in)real life FRIENDED this weekend, and we didn’t want you to miss it. You can still purchase the simulcast and view it for 30 more days! My husband and I had been living in our new home in our new city for about two months, but we still had not met our next-door neighbors. A huge bush covered the side of their house, so we rarely ever saw them enter or leave their home. One evening Jeremy and I were sitting on our second-story patio eating our meal and we heard the neighbor’s door close. As they rounded the corner, I called out to them from above, “Excuse me! Hello, neighbors!” Nothing. Apparently, they did not hear me. So naturally, I called out again, a little louder. […]

The Rhythm of Thanksgiving

Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 As my child was born I fought against nature and attempted to hold her in. This is not how the baby books tell you to approach labor. Quite the opposite, actually. I was supposed to work with the contraction, breathing out and letting it deliver my baby into the world. Instead I gripped bed rails and held every breath attempting to stop her from slipping away from me, in both body and spirit. They took her anyway, through an incision, […]
